The Central Maine Brittany Club participates in the “Northeast Gundog Standings”  where an award is given annually to the Brittany earning the most points in the Amateur Walking or Horseback Gundog stakes for ABC/AKC participating clubs throughout the northeast. It is a very prestigious and sought after award! 

Amateur gun dog stakes run only by an American Brittany Club/American Kennel Club regional participating club count. Horseback or walking.  The award is presented each year. Participating clubs pay annual dues to cover the cost of for trophies for the winner and runner-up and a color ad in the ABC magazine.

This Award was started in the 1950's by a few folks to encourage amateur handlers.  Marge Fitzpatrick who is described as "a strong force in the Brittany world and a leader of the Eastern New England Brittany Club"  maintained the stats for most of the time since the award's inception until her death.  Upon Marge's passing the award languished for a few years.  Darlene Dow  started it back up after consulting with the clubs that had participated in the past because she felt this was a way to help attract and keep new folks trialing.

There are currently ten Brittany clubs that participate. The Maryland Brittany Club and the Hudson Valley Brittany Club participated in the past but are no longer running trials. Darlene Dow generously contributes her time to keep the count and publish the standings each year.
